Michael Moorcock

Michael Moorcock wurde am 18. Dezember 1939 in Mitchem in England geboren. Er verließ das College mit fünfzehn Jahren ohne Abschluss und wurde Herausgeber des Comicmagazins "Tarzan Adventures Magazine". Mit 18 Jahren verkaufte er seine erste Kurzgeschichte und verfasste ein Jahr später seinen ersten Roman.

Als er 1964 das Magazin "New Worlds" übernahm, wendete er sich verstärkt der Science Fiction zu und förderte junge amerikanische und britische Talente. Nachdem das Magazin Pleite ging, widmete er sich wieder verstärkt der Schriftstellerei und dem Genre Fantasy, das ihm mehr lag als das Gebiet Science Fiction. Nebenbei trat er als Sänger und Songwriter der Rockgruppe "Hawkwind" auf und schrieb auch für andere Gruppen wie "Blue Öyster Cult" Songs.

Zu Moorcocks bekanntesten Werken zählen die Fantasy-Zyklen um "Elric von Melniboné", "Prinz Corum" und "Dorian Hawkmoon", die er in einem eigenen Multiversum angesiedelt hat. Seine Werke gehören zum großen, immer wiederkehrenden Komplex von zwei Themen: der "Ewige Held" und dem ewigwährenden Kampf zwischen Ordnung und Chaos. Für seinen Roman "I.N.R.I." erhielt er 1968 den Nebula Award.

Moorcock schrieb auch unter den Pseudonymen William (Bill) Barclay, Edward P. Bradbury, Michael Barrington und James Colvin. Er lebt heute in Texas.
