Brian Lumley

Brian Lumley wurde am 2.12.1937 in einem Kohlebergwerksdorf in England geboren. In Englisch hatte er sehr schlechte Noten und sein Wunsch Schriftsteller zu werden, wurde daher lachend von seinen Lehrern als unsinnig abgetan.

Dem jungen Talent Brian Lumley stand ein großer Mentor zur Seite: August Derleth (1909-1971), der Nachlassverwalter von H. P. Lovecraft und Gründer des legendären Verlags Arkham House in Wisconsin/USA, veröffentlichte seine ersten Storys, die ab 1967 – Lumley war Militärpolizist und in Deutschland stationiert – entstanden. Nach Derleth’ Tod blieb Lumley dem Cthulhu-Mythos noch lange verhaftet und schrieb zwischen 1974 und 1979 fünf Bände der Titus-Crow-Saga. (Ein abschließender Band kam 1989 hinzu). Ebenfalls „lovecraftschen“ Horror bot Lumley mit der „Primal Lands“-Trilogie sowie mit der „Dreamland“-Saga.

Sein Durchbruch als Schriftsteller gelang Lumley – der 1980 nach 22 Dienstjahren die Armee verlassen hatte – mit der „Necroscope“-Reihe (ab 1986) um den „Totenhorcher“ Harry Keogh, die der Verfasser inzwischen mit dem 15. Band beendet hat und die auch in Deutschland mit großem Erfolg veröffentlicht wird.

Brian Lumley lebt und arbeitet heute in Devon, England. Er lässt seine Website sorgfältig pflegen und regelmäßig mit Neuigkeiten bestücken.
